At the Consumer Electronics Show 2010 in January, Asus had announced a limited edition of Eee PC Seashell 1008 designed by New York based designer Karim Rashid. New 10.1-inch Seashell family Eee PC 1008P equipped with Intel Atom Pine Trail platform is now available in India. Flaunting the techno-chic Digi-Wave Design, the Eee PC 1008P Karim Rashid edition costs Rs. 26,990 excluding taxes in India.
Targeted at fashion conscious individuals, Eee PC 1008P boasts of Digi-Wave chassis that has stylish rippling lines. In terms of hardware, Asus packs 1.66 GHz Intel Atom 'Pineview' N450 microprocessor paired with Intel NM10 Express chipset and 2GB DDR2 memory. Asus adds 500 GB Asus WebStorage to the 250 GB HDD for storage. This netbook has chiclet keyboard.
Karim Rashid Collection edition Eee PC 1008P sports 10.1-inch WSVGA screen that supports 1024x600 pixel resolution which is kinda of surprising since users won't be able to make best of 720p mojo showing Pineview chip. Pre-loaded with Windows 7 Starter edition, 1008P also features Express Gate interface that provides instant access to Internet without booting into Windows. Other features of this netbook include built-in 3 megapixel web-cam, digital array mic, Wi Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, LAN Port, two USB 2.0 ports and multimedia card reader. Decent audio can be achieved through stereo speakers and HD Audio codec. Intel's new Pine Trail platform is responsible for conserving power and boosting the battery life. Slim Lithium-Ion battery promises a battery life of 6 hours only even though Asus uses Super Hybrid Engine technology. Many other netbooks with Intel Pine Trail platform offer battery life of 10 hours and above.
This Seashell family netbook comes in Coffee Brown color layer that has gold glitter sprinkled over it. Clearly for the fashion-conscious folks, new EeePC Seashell would face tough competition on grounds of performance.
