Two Khalistani terrorists held

A major terrorist strike was averted in Punjab when two members of Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) were arrested at a check-post near Rajgarh village in Patiala district late on Saturday evening, say police.

Jasvir Singh alias Jassa of Maanki village in Sangrur district and Harjant Singh alias DC from Gurdaspur, who were involved in more than 12 cases since 1993, were arrested when they were on their way to plant bombs in Ambala, IG, Patiala range, PS Gill, said on Sunday. They had allegedly planted bombs outside an LPG refilling plant near Nabha town last month and on a road leading to IAF station at Zirakpur, near Chandigarh.

A police party intercepted the car around 10pm on Saturday and arrested the two when they failed to give satisfactory replies. Nearly 8 kg of explosives, 40 gelatin sticks, two pistols and some ammunition were seized from them, the IG said. The IG claimed that the duo had met KCF’s Bakhshish Singh alias Baba who is absconding since the Karnal bomb attack attempt on the Dera Sacha Sauda chief in a high security jail during the days of militancy in Punjab. According to Gill, another KCF terrorist Harminder Singh, now in Malaysia, provided arms, ammunition, explosives and money to DC, Jassa and Baba through the hawala route and the trio had planted bombs with the help of another person, Pargat Singh, near the LPG plant in Nabha and the airbase.

When Baba returned to India from Pakistan in Nov 2009, Jassa, Pargat and DC had arranged accommodation for him in Bhalwan village of Sangrur district, where the bombs were prepared, said Gill. Baba and Pargat fled Bhalwan on January 25, when police closed in on the village. Baba planted a bomb in the Ambala military area some days back. They were arrested Saturday night, when they were going towards Ambala with another bomb. They were in touch with Baba on phone, who was to give them directions, said Patiala SSP.
