Tech boost for media content consumption

Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry players feel that in the coming years there will be a drastic change in the way media content is consumed. Speaking about future trends at the Ficci Frames convention in Mumbai on Wednesday, panelists observed that verticals like music, gaming, video, movies amongst other will become non-existent and in their place will emerge integrated and personalised experiences. As different segments of consumers have divergent media habits, there is a huge scope for advertisers and media houses to package content accordingly to suit their varying tastes, by intelligently identifying such segments.
Talking about this change, Hemant Sachdev, joint MD, consumer and online, Microsoft India said that the change in consumption pattern has already started. “Today while television is being consumed on a computer device, functionalities of a computer can be achieved within a mobile device,” he noted.
Google India MD Shailesh Rao said, “Nowadays, people decide what they want, it is no more a push model but a pull model. Consumers hint to advertisers and content creators about the kind of media and content that they want.” The world is becoming fragmented and that the segmentation of the consumer is very important.
