There are a lot of changes happening in the society we live in. Some good, others not so much.Among the good is to break some stereotypes when it comes to male female relationships. This is largely due not only those matches which were fought by previous generations, but also the economic situation we are currently living under.
Decades ago some truth with sharp elbows penetrated in many situations. What was it? Making ends meet, let alone thrive, it will be necessary for both parties to earn a paycheck. This fundamental reality filtered into almost every aspect of society, including dating.
But old habits and customs of Die Hard. In some social circles, men are still supposed to be breadwinners and men, which means at some point, they are expected to pay the tab regardless of how expensive it becomes. It also does not help matters that there are still a number of women out there that goes right along with this myth. They have been told by their mother, grandmother, other female relation, and all their friends that it is only fair that the man fork over cash. Anything less is unacceptable.
But when a woman who has thrown that stereotype offers to retrieve check or at least pay for her half of the date the proposal is rejected. Although a man's finances are hovering close to empty, he would rather wash the dishes in the restaurant kitchen than women have to pay the bill.
For some men, if the unthinkable happens, it will be a blow to their ego or a test of their manhood. This can have a profound impact on not only the rest of the day, but the future of the entire relationship.
To real or imagined a baptism of fire is to get an extra dose of kerosene otherwise known as a recession. In his article in The Boston Globe appropriate title "Can not Buy Me Love," Meredith Goldstein writes: "Some singles have been taken out of operation for the love during this recession."
For some men are still coming down to an old-fashioned view that when they take a woman out of always paying for the date.
Is old-fashioned, is all very well for some things, but when it comes to dating, there have been several rule changes.
If the lady in your life makes a little better than you are financially, than be grateful. That does not mean you should be bum extraordinaire and starts beating her up for cash every chance you get. Nor does it mean that she retrieves tab and begin to celebrate it than you; do dig subtle or overt about your current situation. Nobody should have to put up with it.
It does, however, that if she feels good about you and the direction of the relationship, but to accept what is offered without ego-driven need to feel obligated to pay her back.
It is not about to have a crutch. If a person is down it is up to the second person to help wherever possible. This is what healthy relationships supposed to be, a meeting of equals, sharing the good times and ungood.
So stop thinking about how her generosity makes you look. Instead, concentrate on other aspects of the day. If the two of you laugh, relaxed and feel comfortable with each other than do or do not pay the tab is nothing more than an inconsequential formality.
