Indian ace Sania Mirza went down to Aravane Rezai of France in the first round of women's singles at the Australian Open on Tuesday. The Hyderabadi, whose first round match was rescheduled, was defeated in straight sets of 6-4, 6-2 by the 27th seed Rezai. Sania Mirza and Spain's Virginia Ruano Pascual will take on Indonesia's Yayuk Basuki and Kimiko Date of Japan in the women's doubles event. Sania came into the season-opening Grand Slam after playing warm up events in Auckland, New Zealand and Hobart. Sania was the only Indian competing in the singles main draw of the hard court Slam as Somdev Devvarman, Prakash Amritraj and Yuki Bhambri failed to get into the men's singles main draw.
