
An attack by Taliban fighters in the southern Afghan city of Lashkar Gah has been repelled by government troops backed by Nato forces, officials say. Taliban gunmen wearing suicide vests attacked a series of buildings in the capital of the southern Afghan province of Helmand exchanging fire with the Afghan army and NATO forces during an eight-hour shoot-out. Six of the insurgents are reported to have died. Martin Patience reports.
