Plywood is a sheet of wood that are joined together for strength and durability. The quality of plywood completely dependent on the use of the types of glue to glue them together. If the applied glue is strong and long lasting then it will automatically do better plywood and durable. It is considered as the main determinant of quality of plywood.
A plywood is better than the normal plain wood, as it helps with resistance from fading, cracks, warps and twists. The different types of plywood depends on the composition of the material and its use. Each type has its own characteristics, objectives and benefits. Different projects have different requirements and the types used accordingly. The types of plywood are as follows:
• Medium Density Fiber Core Hardwood Plywood: This type of plywood consists of gluing the wood together, which is capable of excellent glue adhesion. This is considered to be very stable and have the consistency to keep the pressure.
• Marine Plywood: This type of plywood is waterproof and can be used to manufacture marine products as well. The second advantage of marine plywood is that it can easily be glued on any surface.
• Medium and High Density Overlay Plywood: The next type of plywood is made up of ordinary veneer cored plywood, but when it is coated with the semi-hard fiber plywood. The weight of this type of plywood is less than MDF, but the surface is more durable than any other type of plywood.
• Veneer Core Hardwood Plywood: It is very lightweight type of plywood, but is considered to be the easiest plywood to work on. It consists of alternate layers of plywood. Surface of veneer plywood with grainy wood finish as oak or maple. It is the strongest among all types of plywood.
• Lumber Core Plywood: It is among the most expensive plywood, which is used only when the edges of plywood are being exposed to off. It consists of hardwoods and veneers used for the surface at the core of plywood.
• Particle board Plywood Core: The light-weighted, but not as consistently as medium density fiber. It has a smooth surface consisting of coarse dust. There are many products on the market, which is made of melamine and the PBC as their substrate material.
• Melamine Plywood: This type of plywood is stain resistant which is flexible in use in many applications. It can be smooth, soft or course.
