New Advances in Diabetes Monitors

Diabetes mellitus, a chronic disease that damages the responses to insulin production, is one of the most widespread diseases in the U.S. today. Insulin is a hormone that support the transformation of food into energy. Diabetes is diagnosed in 800,000 Americans and seriously affects nearly 16 million a year. Together, type 1 and 2 diabetes, contributing to over 200,000 deaths per year.

To prevent the rise of disease, the Food and Drug Administration has evaluated and given a variety of products to improve the diagnosis of diabetes. This in turn will help to achieve better blood glucose control.

New equipment, or diabetes testing supplies have been developed to analyze, monitor and administer medicines for diabetes, which has proved to be far more accurate and easier to use for patients than any predecessors. These new diabetic supplies such as diabetes testing meters, insulin pumps, infusion, wound dressings, skin substitutes for foot ulcers and more than 100 glucose meters, has managed tighter control of blood glucose while allowing patients to better manage their diabetes.

The companies, Animas, Deltec, Disetronic, Insult, MiniMed Soil, Nitro and Valerians has, with control from the FDA, produced newer, more effective diabetes supplies. Animas Corporation's One Touch Ping is a glucose management system with an insulin pump and glucose meter-remote and the Deltas Cosmo has published Away, the lightest mainstream pump available that has all the features of the One Touch Ping but eliminates the need to make an extra meter unit.
