Are you waiting to start university, who come to the end of your training or looking for an interesting and challenging way to spend your gap year? To be eligible for summer internships abroad in 2010 you will need to be over eighteen years old and have either enrolled in, started or recently completed a degree course. A good level of French is essential and students are expected to have studied the language for at least two semesters. Your placement will depend on you showing that you have studied or are studying in that area. Any previous, relevant work experience would be beneficial but not necessary.

Students are generally housed with host families where bed and breakfast is provided. All host families have been studied and are routinely evaluated. They live in well maintained homes in desirable areas of Paris. Living with a host family can give you an ideal opportunity to practice and develop your language skills and to get a first hand experience of French culture and lifestyle. An added attraction is that they will let you access to groups of people in general, not normally covered by the usual visitors. And develop your linguistic and cultural skills from your work and home location, students can expect to receive full time intensive French teaching, normally provided by a fully accredited French Language School. This in itself may have future benefits when you are in your chosen profession. Language schools themselves are usually centrally located close to the fantastic shops, wonderful museums and sidewalk cafes that make Paris so special.

Although you may have to make some initial financial outlay, as travel arrangements, some of these may be covered by educational grants, etc. (again, check this with your university or your program coordinator).
