Honda Siel postponing the completion of the plant in Rajasthan for 2 years

Honda Siel Cars India today announced it has postponed the completion of its plant in Rajasthan for two years due to weak demand. "The new plant would reach the end of 2011, two years behind the calendar," Honda Siel Cars India Vice President Marketing Jnaneswar Sen told reporters on the sidelines of SIAM Annual Convention here. The company is building its second plant in the country in Alwar, Rajasthan. It has a manufacturing plant in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The Rajasthan plant is expected to be completed in two phases in 2009 with an investment of Rs 1,000 rupees. The plant has completed the first stage body parts Honda City sedan and hatchback jazz occurring, Sen said, adding that the complete vehicle plant deployment is possible only when the second phase begins operations. It has invested Rs 750 million rupees on the ground so far. To meet the demand for the holiday season, Honda plans to increase the number of shifts at its plant in Greater Noida. "We are operating on the basis of a single shift, but next month we will start a double shift," Sen said. The company plans to increase production of Jazz at 50 percent. Currently, Jazz produce 5,000 per month. In the back of improved demand, the company expects double-digit growth in the current fiscal year.
