There are a few common problems on each trip, and we can put most of them in four categories, entertainment, energy, security and safety. We will cover each category in turn and suggest an area of geek gadgetry to look at.

Entertainment can make the difference between a dull boring trip or a relatively relaxed. The good news is that you get spoiled when it comes to entertainment gadgets. It was not so long ago that if you want to watch a movie on a long road trip you have to use a portable DVD player, but now you can get a whole bunch of movies on your phone. Books are still a popular choice for any holiday destination. There is nothing nicer than reading a good book and enjoy some sun problem with books is that they take up lots of space in your suitcase, are eBook readers are becoming more popular because you can take with you hundreds of books all in one device no bigger than a hardback book. You can also download new wireless too.

No matter how many awesome gadgets you have all useless if they have no power. Batteries may have had a better year, but so also have gadgets demand for power. As a result, battery life was not much better. Until some geek at MIT are working out how to use carbon nano-tubes in batteries, we sit with mediocre battery life. Not so, thanks to the recent wave of portable gadget recharging units. Now you can charge your gadgets on the go. Some of the latest power gadgets now have solar panels so you can charge your gadgets when the sun shines. Never again must you worry about being away from an outlet for too long.

You are most vulnerable when you travel because you are in an unfamiliar place with people you never met before, so security is never more important than when you are away from home. Fortunately, there are gadgets out there than can help and you do not have to be a geek to enjoy these gadgets. There are clever devices that fit on a hotel door to warn you of unexpected intruders. Some of the more sophisticated, it has built in smoke detectors and other life saving gadgets that are invaluable when abroad.

Safety is paramount these days, and luckily there are plenty of gadgets out there that can help us keep safe. I can not remember how many trips to Mexico, I've been spoiled from drinking bad water. Fortunately, there is a new gadget that can sterilize water in seconds. Long gone are the days of putting chemicals in your water bottle to clean your drinking water. Now there's a device that emits a high energy UV light and when placed directly in the water will neutralize any bugs contaminate. Ultra-Violet light works by destroying the DNA of water-borne nasties.
