Improve Your Finances By Improving Your Closet Organization

Do you need an incentive to improve storage in your home or your wardrobe organization in general? If you've been avoiding making improvements in the way you keep things around your house, here's something you know.

According to a recent study, disorganized costs Americans 15 to 20 percent of the average annual family budget. Ouch! It's huge. Do you believe it? Can you relate to it?

I know it is a problem for me. Whether it's in a cupboard in the kitchen or pantry, or in the garage, I always seem to be looking for a post, I just saw the other day.

Unfortunately, when I can not find what I'm looking for I usually end up buying it. What most of us can benefit from is to follow the advice we've heard since we were children: A place for everything and everything in its place.

So if you need a less cluttered life, and some organization that will actually save you money, there are some tips to follow. To simplify, we will refer to a clothes closet, but these tips can apply to any space:

- Get rid of all the things you do not use anymore. A good rule of thumb is when you buy a new piece of clothing to get rid of one. It keeps you from getting buried in unneeded items.

- Organize by taking things out and put them in piles. The first, the clothes you love and wear all the time. The second is for things you want but could live without. And the third is for items you can give away, or need be thrown away.

- If you have not worn it in recent years, it is probably necessary to go into the pile number three. You will be relieved by how much you can get rid of. It really is a very liberating feeling.

- Before you start putting things back to consider how you can improve your storage area. What can enhance your closet organization?

Maybe it's time to give it a new look with a fresh coat of paint. Or you can add some lighting.

-Once you've done touch ups, you must consider storage solutions such as shelves, baskets, rods, bars, etc. There are entire systems you can buy and put together themselves.

- Another good option is to hire a custom closet designer and installer. There are many companies offering this type of work for miscellaneous expenses.

You may be able to find a company that can complete the project for a little more than it would cost you.

Whatever the cost of closet organization would more than compensate for what it costs you now disorganized. Take time to discard what you no longer use and install a storage system operator that will save you time and money right away!
