Take an informed decision know side effects of contraceptive pills

The invention of the pill heralded a new era for women who now could have an influence on family planning or to avoid unwanted pregnancies. It is the most accepted form of contraception. The pill contains estrogen and progesterone to alter the process of ovulation by inhibiting the release of eggs from the ovary for fertilization. It is important to remember that a pill is in no way protects you from sexually transmitted diseases.

Although the pill is very popular, it is not without side effects, some of which are mild and transient, while others can be severe.

The most common side effect of the pill are weight gain may not be very attractive especially for younger women.

Some women also experience bloating and fluid retention, which is another reason for weight gain. Oral contraceptives containing a high dose of estrogen may contribute to fluid retention. Switching over to a pill with a lower dose may help. Swelling of arms and legs, other side effects of oral contraceptives.

Irregular menstruation, very light menstruation, lack of periods of time or longer periods are some potential fall-outs of a pill. Chances of vaginal discharge or infections, enlarged ovarian follicles are ectopic pregnancy also increased because of the pill. Pain in the lower abdomen is also quite common as cramps.

Nausea and vomiting is very common for the first few rounds. Some women may have dizziness, migraine, severe headache in which case the doctor should be consulted.

A serious but rare side effect of contraceptive pills are the high risk of developing blood clots in the legs, lungs, heart or brain. Liver tumor, gall bladder disease are other negative effects of the pill even though they only happen in rare cases.

Loss of libido, depression, and increase in blood pressure, anxiety and nervousness may also be due to the continued use of the pill.

Darkening of the skin in patches occur in some women. You on the pill may be an increase or decrease in acne, hair loss or increased facial hair. Bone density loss, bid tits are some other effects that a pill user may have to contend with. Women can be prone to cervical cancer or breast cancer, while the pill but this case is still under negotiation.

Although not very common, is heart attack serious opportunities for women on the pill. Women who already have a heart problem history is at greater risk of heart attack while on the pill than women without known heart problem history. Those who have diabetes, hypertension, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or are smokers have higher chances of heart attack compared to other users of the pill.

All listed side effects are not meant to scare women away from the pill, but give them guidelines so that an informed decision can be taken in connection with the physician.
