Madurai thousand pillared hall

Description: This is a thousand pillar-borne Hall of arulmigu Madurai meenakshi Amman temple. Thousand Pillar Hall (Aayiram kaal Mandapam) in Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple actually has 985 carved pillars, not exactly pillars of 1000, as the name suggests. Each pillar is carved out of stone in the style of Dravidian sculpture. This hall was built modeled on the 1000-pillar-borne Hall of Nellaiappar Temple Tirunleveli, the first largest Shiva temple in Tamil Nadu.
