How To Stop Your Dog from Whining

Whining may be a common problem with your new puppy or dog. Both my dogs, Abbey and Mollie have done it from time to time. And until recently, we were not sure of all causes. To understand what triggers such behavior, remember this: dogs can experience anxiety as we humans.

Here are some common reasons why your dog may be disturbed:

1st Separation Anxiety

This is the main reason for an anxious dog. The problem is, you do not even know about it until a friend or neighbor will notify you after you have left your home for a period of time. Such anxiety can cause your dog to be destructive, go to the toilet in the house or even severely scratch or bite of an area of his body.

2nd Failure of the proper Dog Training

Dogs that whining while you're at home usually lack the proper training. Typically, owners treat their pets whining with too much attention or sympathy. Which reinforces behavior.

3rd Illness

Sometimes whining can be a result of mental or physical illness in your dog. Fortunately this is rarely the case, but something your vet can determine whether the solutions here not to solve the problem.

Common solutions

1st More exercise

Few pet owners with a whining dog realize that the solution is usually simple: to give your dog more exercise. This has been the case with my two dogs, one a Brittany spaniel and the other a Border / Aussie mix. Both love to run and 30-60 minutes at the local dog park is the answer. But this must be a sustained good outing, not just a few minutes in the backyard.

2nd Cash-Train

A cash-training your dog gives you his place are his own. Put a worn t-shirt of yours or something with your scent on it. Needless to say, it gives a soothing effect when you are away from the house for a period of time.

If these solutions have little effect on your dog, talk with your veterinarian. Your pet may have a medical condition you are simply not aware.
