Every language student knows that learning a new language requires constant practice. The moment you slip you start to lose it, but one day it will finally become so ingrained it becomes a part of you. Like if you were to learn a musical instrument.
A language swap is when you meet up with a native speaker of the language you are learning. The native language is probably learning your native language and together you can hangout and converse only in one language and then the other. Effective teaching each other as you go.

They may have some foreign friends, but chances are they already speak much English and did not need you. The important thing is to have fun and practice what you have learned in the classroom. For example, if you've just made the future tense so ask your language swap if okay to talk about things in the future so you can practice your future tense conjugation. The more you do it the more you will enjoy it and people are good at what they have.
