Hum Tum... fails to entertain

Hind film actors, who have had a long run in the industry as successful actors, reach at a point where they think that they should do something different. Also, at that stage they complain about illogical scripts coming their way. They have a lot of things to care about, their image, their fan following and importantly - their personal interest. To do things their way, they become producers.
When Shah Rukh Khan thought on those lines and made Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, it failed miserably. It took a few attempts to establish his production house.
Like SRK, Arshad Warsi's attempt is also an honest one. Hum Tum Aur Ghost is Warsi's first venture as a producer. In the film, the Hum is Arshad (Armaan), Tum (Gehna) is Dia Mirza and Ghost is a big world of good souls wandering around amidst living beings to fulfill their final dream.
Every day, Armaan wakes up at a railway station and drives to work in a mean machine. A photographer by profession, he is known for his spectacular clicks but his consistency in being late drives his employer crazy. How does he still manage to get work? Thanks to his friend Mini (Sandhya Mridul).
After work, he meets his love, Gehna, spends some time with her, gets drunk, and the next morning is again greeted by sweepers at the station. Why does he run away from his beautiful penthouse?
Gehna's father Javed Sheikh hates his to-be son-in-law as he is an alcoholic. Gehna loves Armaan immensely but there is one thing about him that she doesn't know. He can see ghosts, talk to them and at a later stage, also goes ahead and helps them in fulfilling their last wishes. He is selective, though.
But why does it happen to Armaan? Virendra Kapoor (Boman Irani) explains him that it might be his gift or a curse. The explanation confuses the already confused Armaan all the more.
As far as the entertainment and keeping the audiences involved is concerned, Hum Tum Aur Ghost travels on a highway in the first half but fails to reach the destination in the second half.
Arshad has definitely graduated as an actor. His popular Circuit character is nowhere seen in the comedy scenes which is a good sign, as he is not repeating himself. Scenes which make you laugh are not because the lines were brilliant. It is just the spontaneity and the way Arshad says those lines which stands out.
Dia's character is the most confused heroine ever seen in Bollywood. She immensely loves Armaan but doesn't allow him to go to the Bahamas for a photo shoot only because she can't accompany him. However, she makes a long trip to India for something she doesn't even believe in.
She breaks up with Armaan, tells her dad to go ahead and find a match for her, again goes back to Armaan but forgets to tell her dad about it.
A special mention about the accident scene of Dia Mirza which is visually very nice. It is good in the beginning, but overdoes it.
The length of the movie could have been five minutes less only if Dia had said 'I Love You' a little less. But she continues to woo everyone onscreen.
Director Kabeer Kaushik has worked really hard to keep the film tight and to the point in the first half but it seemed the film was running like a headless chicken in the second half.
