But I've come across many websites that literally caused my eyes to pressure and thus I closed the window almost immediately. Why almost immediately? Because I took notes on what to avoid in the design of the website.
So I have compiled the top ten feed, which should not be on your site.
1st Neon colors
Neon colors are too bright to be used on a website. It is too glaring to be looking at a couple of minutes, especially so if you use neon colors as your background color. Imagine having a neon yellow color as your background. Would not it be too stressful for you to look at? People will be turned off by such color and thus you lose your audience in just one or two minutes.
Therefore you must not use neon colors as your font color or your background. The only way you can use neon colors on your website are using it as a highlight during the important words that we used to do when we were in school.
2nd Black or dark background
The audience usually attached a dark background website with an attacker's website or sleazy website. As the recommended color for a background, either a light color or white.
3rd No distance between sections
This may sound basic to you but I come across this error all the time! People line up articles for their sites without spacing between sections, making it extremely difficult for readers to finish reading the entire article. If I come across such articles, I will close the window immediately, because I do not like to read without paragraph spacing.
Imagine having to read the entire article without any distance between the sections. Are you able to finish reading it? I highly doubt it. Most likely you will read the first few sentences and shift your concentration to another thing.
4th Pop ups or pop under that can not be shut
Many people resorted to using this method to force their customers to subscribe to their list. Is it necessary in the first place? I do not think so. Yes, your number of subscribers on your list will increase dramatically BUT it goes the same for the number of unsubscribe too! Why? Simply because you are literally forced these people to subscribe to your site! How simple and easy it is.
I have nothing against pop-ups or pop under. Just avoid using pop-ups or pop-under, can not be closed at all.
5th Own variety of English words
Use standard spelling of English words. I've seen many people using words that have the same pronunciation, but with a different spelling. Take for example the word "you". People spelled it as "euu". What kind of language is that? No doubt that others can know what you're trying to say, but such use of spell reflect your professionalism and credibility in your area. Would people trust what you say? I doubt it.
6th No punctuation
Separator Characters are invented for a purpose. That is, to give the reader to know when to stop, when to continue and so on. I have met many places where the authors do not use any punctuation at all. It makes reading very frugal. Can you imagine reading the entire article with no punctuation? You will not even know when I ask a question!
Please use punctuation in everything you write. Also, note that there is a proper way to use punctuation. Take this sentence for example. "You are, reading this article now." There are too many "commas" in this sentence. Then use the correct punctuation in the right place.
7th Messy layout
Have you come across a website where it is too messy to be shown? What I mean by messy is that there are too many feed at the sites located outside of and overlapping elements.
Site layout should make sense, period.
8th All caps
The text in all caps make people think you're yelling at them, which is unnecessary. Therefore, only important words will be capped to let readers know that this is the important points throughout the piece. Other than that, you should not use any text in large letters in any part of the articles or posts.
9th Reduced letter in a location by keyword
I've seen people write like this in their blog post. You can write like this on MSN or social media sites with your friends, but definitely not your professional website.
10th Spelling or grammatical errors
Many people post their articles or blog posts without doing a spell check for typos. Spelling errors are among the most common surface defects, and most easily corrected.
To correct spelling errors, use a spell checker, regardless of spelling skills, together with a glossary to help you find the right alternative to a misspelled word.
Grammatical errors are also common on websites. People always misuse "it" and "its". So be sure to correct the grammatical errors in your article before sending it to your site!
