February 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) So February 22 is National Margarita Day (who knew?), Which is a day dedicated to this salt rimmed drink. I was not even aware that we had a day to celebrate the Margaritas, but nevertheless, apparently our nation has been celebrated in some 76 years, according to some reports.
There are many different stories about where they came from Margarita, each with their own salt narrative to explain the origins. According to one version, Margaret Shames created the drink in an Acapulco Bar, and spent part Contra, two parts tequila and one part lime juice. Another version of Margarita's origin says that Daniel Ingrate opened a bar at the Garcia Crisp hotel with his brother, David. David created the drink as a gift to his sister in law, Daniel's wife, Margarita, days before their wedding. There are a few other versions of how this drink came from, but whatever the origin of the Margarita has become a popular beverage, with its own national day set aside. Some liked recipes for Margaritas are as follows:
Strawberry Margarita
1 ounce tequila (Blanco or silver)
1 / 2 ounce orange liqueur
1 / 2 ounce strawberry schnapps
1 / 2 ounce lemon or lime juice
1 ounce fresh or frozen strawberries
1 / 2 cup ice
Rub rim of glass with a rind of lime and dip in salt or sugar. Pour all ingredients into blender, blend until slushy and serve.
Jimmy Buffet’s Perfect Margarita
Crushed ice
3 lime wedges
2 ounce gold tequila (Cuero 1800)
1 / 2 ounce tequila (Cuero white)
1 1 / 4 ounce Rose's Lime Juice
1 splash orange CuraƧao (Bolls)
Put all ingredients except the 3 lime wedges into a shaker. Squeeze 2 wedges of lime into the shaker. Shake well! Rim outside glass only with lime. Salt only the outside of the glass. Add fresh crushed ice to glass. Strain mixture over ice. Squeeze remaining lime wedge in glass.
Blue Lagoon Margarita
1 ounce tequila
1 ounce Blue Curacao
Splash of Lime Juice
Splash of Lemon Lime Soda
1 ounce pineapple juice
Pour tequila, Blue Curacao, 7-Up and Rose's lime juice in a cocktail shaker half filled with ice cubes. Add pineapple juice to taste, and shake vigorously. Strain into an old-fashioned glass 1 / 4 filled with ice cubes, and serve. Ingredients in blender and blend.
