
A holiday that is most famous in the U.S. would be Thanksgiving. It is indeed deeply rooted in their history of how Americans came to America , and also a major factor in American culture.
There are a lot of stories about how Thanksgiving started, but among 1 of them would be during the 1620's when the Puritans came to the New World from aboard the Mayflower from England.When they landed at around 1621, those Englishmen who had plans to settle in America, and the already established Indians celebrated together this 3-day feast to thank the creator for the bountiful harvest of what is now the city of Massachusetts.
In fact, this practice began long before the settlers came. Native Americans feasted usually after Nice harvest was done, but it was just so formalized a bit when the Puritans arrived. After Thanksgiving was celebrated annually thereafter.
People celebrated Thanksgiving to mean a bountiful autumn yield / harvest. Even when you look at history, you would see that the Romans and Greeks actually had a share of the merriment celebrations with feasts, parades and music as these Thanksgiving party / parties which we currently have. Chinese also did their share of these Thanksgiving party, families usually eat and partying on the moon cakes on the occasion of a full moon. Until now, increasingly, they do celebrate their Chinese Moon Festival with great solemnity.
The British Isles is known for its population celebrates harvest season with this festival called "Lamma" to signal the start of the season.
Today, whatever the origin and history, Thanksgiving is a holiday that really is set to celebrate in most parts of North America for people to express appreciation and gratitude to our God for blessings received.
In America , it is always celebrated every 4 Thursday in November and in Canada , because their harvest season normally ends in the past, it is celebrated every 2nd Monday in October.Canada is a 3-day celebration, but it is not as hyped as it is published in the United States .
Jews also have their own interpretation of a Thanksgiving holiday in the form of "Sukkoth". This is their version of a Jew harvest festival, and this holiday is actually celebrated for 8 days and used as an opportunity to reunite families again, and just basically how to be grateful, because a great year.
Thanksgiving holiday celebrations in the old days, Europe also has a great story. They also held celebrations and had plenty of mirth at harvest time. So celebrate the harvest time is just a very old tradition, not only for Americans but also to the rest of the world also.
Despite cultural and religious differences, Thanksgiving means the same feelings all around the world. We can observe or practice them differently, but there are also a lot in common, that we celebrate. Thank the Creator for bountiful harvests, reuniting with friends and family and of course, those sumptuous feasts
