Puttaparthy is the original village in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh in which Baba took birth, and the township is Prasanthi Nilayam. The city's biggest attraction is the Baba's Prasanthi Nilayam Ashram, the presence of which has a huge fill up to the local economy in the form of lodges, restaurants and shops, are highly frequented by visitors to Prasanthi Nilayam. Prasanthi Nilayam literally means dwelling of the highest peace. Baba gives daily darshan to his thousands of followers in the ashram.

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba: Sai Baba was born November 23, 1926, in Puttaparthy and at the age of thirteen, fear that he was possessed by evil spirit, his parents took him to the village doctor who tormented his body. Youth Sathyanarayana suffered all this torture with equanimity, and then declared that he was Shiridi Sai Baba reborn. Shiridi Sai Baba was Lord Shiva incarnate in human form. At the age of fourteen, Bhagawan separated from his family that he wanted his supporters called him to launch his divine mission. From that time gave all to his followers, devotees have increased day by day and are spread throughout the world numbering many millions, and experiencing their lives in amazing ways.

Apart from the main ashram Puttaparthy have other points of interest:

Hanuman temple: The Hanuman temple is situated in the village of Puttaparthi, in the northern end of the Gopuram road. The temple is associated with a remarkable incident that took place during Bhagawan's childhood.

The village mosque: The village hall opposite the mosque and was built and consecrated by Baba in 1978 at Puttaparthy.

Sri Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Museums: Both Karna Semitic and Hindustani vocal styles taught here, apart from teaching to play Veena, mridangam, sitar and tabla. Beside the music college is an innovatively designed building. Its facade formed of various musical instruments.

Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital: Baba's initiatives in the field of medical care began with Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital. Health care for the growing stream of poor patients was strengthened by upgrading the hospital for a 90 bed facility with an out patient department, which now handles about 600 patients on an average.

Other key institutions include the Sri Sathya Sai Space Theater, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (Super Specialty Hospital), Chaitanya Jyothi Museum, Sri Sathya Sai University, Sri Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium and an indoor stadium - opened with international Standards by the then President of India APJ. Abdul Kalam.

Travel to Puttaparthy: Puttaparthy in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, southern India, is well connected by road, rail and air.

Puttaparthy Air Port is located 1 km from the Super Specialty Hospital and 6 kms from the ashram and flights coming to and from Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore and on rare occasions also offer flights to Colombo, Sri Lanka and Delhi. Railway station is 8 km away from the ashram and buses plied by APSRTC and KSRTC.
