The following list contains all the popes of the Catholic Church, beginning with Peter the Apostle, traditionally regarded as the first pope, when he was appointed by Jesus and his role in the organization of the Church. Also included in this list - called anti-popes who were elected or affirmed that the pope on several occasions during the church's history, but whose views were later invalidated potatoes are recognized in bold; ANTIPOP names appear on the standard rate. The list contains names of the popes, the year of his Pontificate, and the original names of those who changed their names to the election. Spelling of names are in parentheses.
There have been 265 people who have valid reasons to be pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Of these 74 were later given the sacred, and as cited in this list. Within Orthodoxy, there have been (other) people who have been considered or popes or patriarchs, and the lists are presented separately.
