Bollywood films solely depend on box office collections and it is a Friday, the judgment day, which either takes a film to a new height or completely thrashes it. This Friday Karthik Calling Karthik directed by Vijay Lalwani with be clashing with Teen Patti directed by Leena Yadav.
Producers and distributors generally avoid releasing two big-budget films on the same day. But at the end of the day, it is the audiences who will decide which film will get a longer run at the box office. Isn't it? This time with Big B and Ben Kingsley on one side and Deepika and Farhan on the other, theatre owners are expecting enough fireworks. Both Teen Patti team and KCK team have left no stone unturned as far as the publicity is concerned.
Deepika Padukone's last film Love Aaj Kal did very well at the box office and it was declared a hit. No doubt Saif Ali Khan sailed all the way and gave the film what it needed through his performance. But even Deepika's acting was appreciated by the masses.
Amitabh Bachchan's last film Paa also did exceptionally well and it is considered as one of his best performances. R Madhavan's 3 Idiots needs no words as it is still running very well. The cast of Karthik Calling Karthik went to Dubai for its promotion and the cast of Teen Patti are still travelling to many cities in India as part of its movie promotion.
Deepika Padukone, for the very first time, is paired with Farhan Akhtar. The promos look promising too. But will the new pairing attract the crowd to the theatres is to be seen.
Amitabh Bachchan in Teen Patti has already grabbed eyeballs. Also, the visuals shot in Hollywood style promises much more.
Mr Bhatia, manager at Chitra theatre in Dadar says, "People want to see films and they are always waiting for good movies. The promos of Karthik Calling Karthik have done their job. People are already talking about it. We are getting many inquires. I think people are eager to watch the couple's chemistry in the film."
The two songs in KCK, Hey Ya and Uff Teri Adaa, have topped the chart busters and people are already humming the tunes. However, Teen Patti's music has not gained much popularity. There is no doubt about the sensibility or the freshness in the films in which Farhan acts or makes, but this time his pairing with Deepika is very unique.
Then again, there are four newcomers in Teen Patti whose fate will be decided only after the release of the film. It will be exciting to watch R Madhavan and Amitabh Bachchan together and one can be rest assured that their performance will definitely not be disappointing. Leena Yadav's previous work Shabd wasn't a hit, but critics liked it for its unique storyline.
Also, reports in the media about Farhan's closeness with Deepika during the shooting have helped in promoting their chemistry. Says Karan Sethia Public Relation Officer at Fame Cinemas, "Well, definitely I think Karthik Calling Karthik will bring in a lot of audience. The promos are doing well. A lot is being spoken about their new pairing and their chemistry. Also, we have lots of inquires about corporate booking for the show. So, we are waiting for this film to release."
The advance booking of neither Kathik Calling Karthik nor Teen Patti has started and it will only be on Thursday morning that the audiences will get to buy the tickets. When we spoke to Santosh Bhatia of Premiere theatre. He informed, "People are not interested in watching Deepika Padukone. People like to watch Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra. Deepika is not a big star. Yes. Farhan has never disappointed his audience so people will come to watch Karthik Calling
Karthik because of his credibility." When quizzed about his take on Teen Patti, he said, "Big B is the biggest star in this country and no doubt Teen Patti will sell only because of him."
Virendra Agarwal of Metro Big Cinemas informed, "I would say people are excited to watch both the films. Both the films are having equal inquires.
Come Friday, and we'll all know who emerges the winner.
