Most Australian businesses plan to invest in technology that will reduce their carbon emissions as they prepare for the introduction of laws tackling climate change, a survey has found. Some 74 percent of companies have taken steps or plan measures in the next three years to manage their carbon footprint and 62 percent have invested in cleaner technologies or intend to, the survey of 400 businesses by the Australian Industry Group and accounting firm KPMG found. The government wants to introduce carbon trading in 2011 as part of a policy that seeks to cut emissions of greenhouse gases by between 5 percent and 15 percent of their 2000 levels by 2020. Just 15 percent of businesses said they understood the carbon pollution reduction scheme, which is yet to be approved by Australia’s upper-house Senate.
