The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) health officials are awaiting culture test reports of the three persons who tested positive for cholera in the hanging drop test. All three are at Kasturba Hospital under treatment. Areas where they stayed have been screened by health officials. On Tuesday, GT Hospital in Fort area, referred the three persons — 18-year-old woman from Mazgaon, a 46-year-old from Masjid Bunder and a 50-year-old woman from Mumbadev— to Kasturba Hospital for suspected cholera. All three are from different areas of south Mumbai and complained of loose motions and vomiting. The head of BMC’s epidemiology cell Dr Daksha Shah said that the three cases transferred on Tuesday were sporadic. “There is no cause for concern as the respective areas have been screened,” she said. She added that the BMC set two camps at Ambedkar Nagar slum in Cuff Parade. “Only 2-3 people complained of vomiting and loose motions,” she said adding that they were immediately treated and given ORS sachets and chlorine tablets. Meanwhile, two more persons, both from Ghatkopar died due to monsoon-related diseases. An 18-year-old man, admitted to Rajawadi Hospital on Saturday, succumbed to falciparum malaria two days later. Another 20-year-old man admitted to KEM Hospital died due to fever on Tuesday, a day after he was admitted.
